To stop the usage of plastic bags, we would pick up wet waste on a daily basis and dry waste once in a week. The people who collected dry waste were gifted a jute bag.

We have 217 houses in our colony and have water harvesting pits to improve the ground water levels. The Swachh Award definitely encouraged us, they said.

G Laxmi of RGK Vambay Colony said that for the past two years, we have been focusing on segregation of dry waste and wet waste and creating awareness among the colony members. Apart from segregation of waste, we have aimed on not to use plastic material.

We have arranged a vehicle for transporting garbage; we make sure that the surrounding areas of the residency are also kept clean. Jyothi of Ekta Prime Hyline Park, Gachibowli said that it is a great programme taken up jointly by The Hans India and GHMC to keep the area clean. Under this programme, around 20 people participated and we collected waste from the area and gardens in the society and transported it to the dump yard.

President Guri Shetty Chandrashekar of Vasavi Colony said that they asked the residents to segregate the waste; and with the help of GHMC a vehicle is arranged for dumping garbage. There are 12 roads passing though Vasavi Colony and we make sure that garbage is picked up from all the areas regularly, he said.
